Switchvox Roundup: Ring Rules

Recently I was asked by a new Switchvox customer if they could set up their phone to have it ring in different ways depending on the type of call.  “It’s something our old system did” they said.

With Digium phones and Switchvox this is both possible and easy to do. However if you do not know where to go in the system you may not even realize it’s possible. I am here to teach you how to do it.  First, log into the user interface for the extension you want to use this with.  Go to **Features** > **Phone Features** then click the tab Ring Rules. Then click the **Create Ring Rule** button.

Give the rule a name and select ring type and the Ringtone that you want to use.  Digium has a number of different ringtones already in the system or you can upload custom ringtones through the Ringtones tab.  Once you save the Ring Rule you will be taken to the next page where you set up the ring conditions.  Click the Create Ring Rule Condition button.  You can choose between Call Type, Extensions, Caller ID, and Ring Hints.  For my customer Call Type was the most appropriate so that they could specify between Direct, Queue, Internal, External and all calls.  So with the Ring Rules in Switchvox you can set up different ring rules for each or whichever you need and use different ringtones for each rule.
